Tessellations of Common Figures
A collection of animations helping students to understand the principles of TESSELLATION.
Students are prompted to draw conclusions and experiment to discover some of the simpler TESSELLATION patterns.
1.) Shows how rotation through the mid-point of a side (one of the wallpaper groups) creates a Tessellation for triangles.
2.) Similar for any quadrilateral.
3.) The regular Pentagon, does it tessellate?
4.) The regular Hexagon, does it tessellate?
This should be followed up by enquiring about other regular polygons, hopefully they will quickly realise a Regular Hexagon is the limit
5.) Another wallpaper tesselation that is valid for a pentagon with parallel sides, enabling tessellation.
